Software Engineer, C/C++

About The Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Lead Software Engineer to join our team in Herndon, VA. This on-site position is integral to supporting our maritime sector projects, focusing on software development, integration, and system control for advanced sonar systems. The successful candidate will lead software architecture efforts, oversee design and development activities, and ensure compliance with customer requirements and industry standards. This role involves technical guidance, project management, and collaboration with cross-functional teams, customers, and stakeholders to deliver high-quality solutions that meet mission-critical objectives. The Lead Software Engineer will also participate in technical reviews, certification activities, and contribute to the continuous improvement of software processes and practices.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree with a minimum of 9 years of relevant experience, or a Graduate Degree with at least 7 years of experience.
• In lieu of a degree, a minimum of 13 years of directly related experience.
• At least 2 years in a software leadership or project management role.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience with software design and development using C/C++ programming languages.
• Experience creating and presenting software proposals, including developing and reviewing cost estimates and proposal packages.
• Proficiency in tracking earned value and leading large software planning efforts.
• Able to obtain and maintain a US Security Clearance.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to the development and documentation of software architecture specifications.
• Structure work to enable clear progress assessment and tracking of team performance metrics against program milestones and KPIs.
• Provide independent validation and verification of design concepts and implementation approaches.
• Review and oversee design activities to ensure compliance with customer requirements, company standards, software quality, and safety protocols.
• Design and implement software solutions using C/C++, including embedded systems and application-level development.
• Prepare design review materials to support SRR, PDR, CDR, and other technical audits.
• Participate in flight safety certification activities and ensure software meets all safety standards.
• Estimate and track project financials as a Control Account Manager (CAM).
• Foster positive relationships with customers, suppliers, colleagues, industry groups, and government agencies.
• Support the entire software development lifecycle, from requirements gathering to deployment and maintenance.
• Travel approximately 10% for project coordination and client engagement.
• Maintain eligibility for and ability to obtain and sustain a US Security Clearance.
