About the Role

Flex is seeking a highly skilled Staff Software Engineer to join our core platform team. This role is ideal for engineers who possess innovative ideas, a strong technical background, and the ambition to influence the company's technological direction. As a key member of a small, collaborative, and remote-first team, you will have the opportunity to work on complex systems that directly impact our core business and user experience. The successful candidate will be responsible for shaping the long-term architecture of our backend services while remaining actively involved in coding and system delivery. This role involves close collaboration with cross-functional teams—including product, design, analytics, and finance—to develop scalable, reliable, and impactful systems that support consumer experiences, partner integrations, and critical business operations. Additionally, you will play a vital role in mentoring junior engineers, elevating technical standards, and ensuring the successful execution of end-to-end projects.

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and maintain the company's Finance service and internal tooling, including financial reporting, reconciliation, and audit processes
  • Develop and enhance APIs and functionalities to facilitate large monetary transactions across banking partners via various payment rails such as ACH
  • Scale the core platform infrastructure to support business growth while maintaining high performance and reliability
  • Continuously improve operational efficiency through automation, tooling, observability, and system design evolution
  • Collaborate closely with product, analytics, finance, and engineering teams to launch new financial features and enhance existing systems
  • Mentor and guide engineering team members, fostering a culture of best practices and technical excellence
  • Ensure systems are secure, compliant, and resilient against failures and security threats
  • Participate in code reviews, architecture discussions, and technical decision-making processes

Qualifications

  • 6+ years of experience in software development or related fields
  • Proven experience in technical leadership and guiding engineering teams through complex projects
  • Proficiency in Java, Python, Golang, or TypeScript/Node.js
  • Strong experience with relational SQL and NoSQL databases such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, or DynamoDB
  • Extensive background in designing and developing fault-tolerant, scalable distributed systems
  • Hands-on experience with AWS cloud services including EKS, Lambda, API Gateway, VPN, RDS, etc.
  • Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code tools like AWS CLI, AWS CDK, or Terraform
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to articulate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
  • Experience with finance reporting, reconciliation, and data mining
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to automation and tooling
