The mission of the Waymo AI Foundations team is to develop machine learning solutions addressing open problems in autonomous driving, towards the goal of safely operating Waymo vehicles in dozens of cities and under all driving conditions. As part of this work, the team initiates and fosters collaborations with other research teams in Alphabet. Current focus areas include reinforcement learning, learning from demonstration, generative modeling, Bayesian inference, hierarchical learning, and robust evaluation.

Responsibilities

• Work on connecting large-scale foundation models with production systems.
• Adapt foundation models to new sensors, new platforms, and new production requirements.
• Collaborate extensively with other teams to land foundation models to next-gen platforms.

Requirements

• Experience in building large-scale systems.
• Track record of solving complex system problems.
• Track record of successful deliveries through large-scale collaborations.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in LLM/VLM related foundation models or systems.

Pay

The expected base salary range for this full-time position across US locations is $251,000—$310,000 USD. Actual starting pay will be based on job-related factors, including exact work location, experience, relevant training and education, and skill level.
