Software Engineer

This is a hybrid position in Austin, TX. As a member of a dynamic engineering team, you will contribute to and influence the design of new features, stay updated on new features in major Windows operating system releases, and work in file systems, clustering, security, and cloud security solutions.
Responsibilities
- Research, design, and implement cross-platform kernel software, primarily at the file system and storage layers.
- Design code with special attention to performance and correctness.
- Collaborate with project managers in the US to understand customer requirements and use cases.
- Work with architects to expand requirements and write design/functional specifications.
- Work with support and compatibility teams to resolve customer escalations.
- Attend North America customer calls to understand configurations, collect technical logs, analyze them, and provide timely solutions.
- Provide timely updates to customers on escalation progress.
- Develop unit tests and ensure product quality; work with the system test team to define test plans, troubleshoot, and resolve software defects.
- Use the Linux toolchain in both user space and kernel to debug issues and develop code for FUSE-based file systems.
- Write functional specifications using Confluence and wiki tools, participate in review meetings, and prototype to evaluate feasibility.
- Use debuggers to determine the root cause of issues in code written by you or other team members to improve product quality.
- Help triage customer-reported defects, either directly or through the support organization.
- Maintain transparency and communication in your work, collaborating with QA, Documentation, and support teams.
- Participate in daily huddles using SAFe Agile for planning and progress discussions, working individually or in groups on assigned tasks and stories.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, or Engineering with a minimum of 1-4+ years of relevant work experience, or a Master’s degree with 0-2+ years of relevant work experience.
- Experience in designing, implementing, and debugging software in multi-processor machine architectures.
- Experience in clustering and distributed file systems design is highly desirable.
- Knowledge of virtualization—virtual machine (VM), Hypervisor system design, and Docker/containers.
- Strong proficiency in C/C++ and Go.
- Expert troubleshooting and debugging skills.
- Experience with Kubernetes.
- Knowledge and passion for Agile software development, solid software engineering practices, release processes, and project life cycles.
- Knowledgeable with Intel/AMD 64-bit architectures.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, or Engineering.
- Experience with the implementation of Linux Userspace Filesystem Framework (FUSE), system calls, and vector tables.
- Performance engineering experience.
- Familiarity with AWS and Azure IaaS environments.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to write clear functional specifications and design documents, and engage in technical discussions with customers.
- Self-directed with minimal supervision required on work products.
- Strong team player.
- Willingness to proactively interact with the team and achieve results in a dynamic environment.

Pay
The Total Target Compensation (TTC) market range for this position, inclusive of annual base salary and variable compensation target, is between $103,365.12 and $177,744.00 USD annually. This range reflects how companies in a similar industry and geographic region generally pay for similar jobs. The final position within this range depends on factors such as the employee’s career path history, competencies, skills, performance, and internal equity.
