About the Role

As a software engineer, you will support existing programs in production related to software and contribute to new developments by designing, developing, modifying, analyzing, documenting, and testing embedded software on hardware.

Responsibilities

  • Develop new embedded software products for power supply control, implementing modern software design principles, resolving complex technical challenges, and providing innovative solutions.
  • Test software integration on development hardware.
  • Perform detailed software design activities and present at design reviews.
  • Provide technical assessment of software used on development programs.
  • Develop tests to verify software performance, troubleshoot, and resolve software challenges.
  • Document developed code and tools used to support projects.
  • Assist in the research, design, development, and testing of software and tools, including new work products or enhancing existing applications, systems, or embedded products.
  • Read and design digital circuits using CAD tools (Altium preferred).
  • Participate in internal review of software components and systems.
  • Provide technical write-ups for proposals related to software and communication.
  • Evaluate compliance of design against requirements and identify or review risks and opportunities associated with the design concept and customer requirements.
  • Support Marketing on technical issues as required, including travel.
  • Analyze legacy designs and provide hands-on support for troubleshooting production hardware and customer-returned hardware.
  • Work with the Test team to maintain and update automated test environments.
  • Support the development of tools for use in the production environment.
  • Collaborate with project leaders and other professionals within the Engineering department.
  • Build stable working relationships internally and support defining scope, schedule, and expectations for projects.
  • Follow standard practices and procedures in analyzing situations or data.
  • Work flexible hours and/or different shifts if needed.
  • Adhere to all regulatory requirements, including OSHA, EPA, State, and Federal Regulations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a similar field.
  • 5 years of related experience preferred.
  • Experience with C and assembly programming.
  • Strong understanding of real-time embedded systems and low-level firmware.
  • Experience with 8 and 16-bit embedded programming.
  • Preferred experience with Atmel and Texas Instruments microcontroller families.
  • Experience with electronics laboratory equipment, especially protocol analyzers.
  • Experience reading electrical schematics.
  • Experience with Windows and Linux.
  • Exposure to aerospace domain standards such as DO-178B/C preferred.
  • Understanding of Software Configuration Management practices and tools, particularly git.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Sound reasoning skills in risk assessment and failure analysis.
  • Strong understanding and working knowledge of root cause analysis techniques and effective corrective action.

This position requires access to export-controlled commodities, technical data, technology, and services restricted under ITAR. Employment is contingent on compliance with ITAR regulations and successfully obtaining/maintaining necessary export authorization.

Physical Requirements

  • Work within an office and factory environment, including moderate noise and chemical odors.
  • Move between sitting, standing, and walking.
  • Operate a computer and other office productivity machinery (calculator, copy machine, printers, etc.).
  • Frequently lift and handle items less than 10 lbs, with occasional lifting up to 25 lbs.
  • Occasionally ascend or descend stairs to access various facility locations.
  • Specific vision abilities required: close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to focus (with correction if needed) to perform hand soldering and wiring of assemblies.

Pay

$96,000 - $151,000 annualized salary.
