Software Engineer
About the Role
The Software Engineer is a fundamental technical contributor responsible for supporting the development and maintenance of software solutions. This includes backend systems, frontend user experiences, products, or tools that keep the business running. Working under the supervision of senior engineers, you will contribute to the technical direction of the department while delivering high-quality software that meets customer needs. A key expectation is actively learning and applying agentic AI coding tools, treating AI as a primary collaborator, and developing judgment to critically evaluate AI-generated output for quality, correctness, and security.
Responsibilities
- Development of Products or Systems
- Develop and maintain backend systems on IBM i using RPG, SQLRPGLE, and CLP.
- Integrate IBM i applications with relational databases (DB2 for i) and enterprise systems.
- Understand and apply SQL-based data access patterns.
- Deliver reliable, tested code including unit tests and contributions to CI/CD pipelines.
- Track defects, resolutions, and bug fixes to support quality software delivery.
- Learn and apply agentic AI coding tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Claude Code) under senior guidance, critically reviewing AI-generated output before committing.
- Collaborate with engineers, product managers, and QA across teams.
- Engage in ongoing personal study of modern technologies and AI-assisted development practices.
- Engagement and Collaboration
- Work closely with teammates, including software engineers, product managers, and test engineers.
- Contribute to dynamic requirements and initiatives with cross-team collaborators.
- Participate in daily stand-ups, sprint planning, and engineering guilds.
- Share on-call and escalation responsibilities with your team.
Requirements
- 0-5 years of industry experience in software engineering.
- Degree in computer science or related field, or equivalent industry/training experience.
- Coding proficiency:
- For backend-focused IBM i engineers: Foundational knowledge of RPG, SQLRPGLE, and/or CLP for IBM i.
- Experience with modern web or backend technologies (Node.js, C#/.NET) is a plus.

Work Environment
Employee must be able to sit or stand for long periods while working at a computer or performing other sedentary tasks. If working remotely, the employee must have a space that allows effective job performance, including reliable internet connectivity and the ability to participate in phone and video calls. Regular and predictable attendance and punctuality are required.
