Software Engineer

About the role

We’re seeking dynamic, driven Software Engineers/Developers to join our engineering team and build robust enterprise applications for the Department of War's authoritative data analytics platform (War Data Platform) under the Chief Digital and AI Officer (DoW CDAO). Responsibilities

• Translate high-level systems engineering designs into clean, durable source code, Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC), and Configuration-as-Code across development, integration, and staging tiers.
• Isolate, trace, and remediate deployment blocks or interface breakdowns occurring between platform data services and custom user web applications.
• Construct comprehensive unit test suites and embed standard API integration schemas (message queues, REST, gateways) while ensuring compliance with container security baselines.

Requirements

• Active Top Secret, SCI Eligible clearance.
• 0-5+ years of progressive professional experience in data engineering, software engineering, or a related technical discipline (Levels I and II).
• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Information Technology, or a related field.

Skills

• Core Software Development: Strong proficiency in Python or JavaScript writing clean, maintainable, and scalable application code.
• Infrastructure & Automation: Experience with entry-level to advanced Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC), Configuration-as-Code, and CI/CD pipeline operations.
• API Integration & Security: Familiarity with API Gateways, REST integrations, Docker/Container hardening, and container security baselines.
• Testing & Repository Management: Hands-on experience with unit testing frameworks and Git-based code repositories (GitHub/GitLab).

Desired Skills

• Collaborative team player eager to coordinate cross-component alignment and mentor/support fellow engineers.
• Sharp analytical and triage skills to quickly troubleshoot and debug complex software integration breakdowns.

Pay

The annual base salary range for this role is $100,000–$170,000 (USD), which does not include discretionary bonus compensation or our comprehensive benefits package. Actual compensation offered to the successful candidate may vary based on geographic location, work experience, education, and skill level.

Benefits

• Leave: 4 weeks of Annual Leave plus 11 holidays, with an additional day of Annual Leave for each year of service. Flexibility to cash out annual leave hours, opt out of other benefits, or arrange for additional contract hours (over 40 hrs/week). Option to earn 1.3 times your hourly rate after working over 1,880 hours on contract. Ability to buy additional annual leave for a total of 6 weeks (240 hours) plus 11 holidays.
