Software Engineer
About the role
As a Software Engineer at Arete, you will develop and implement features, as well as resolve bugs, for gimbal sensor systems. Conduct system testing utilizing embedded processors, circuit boards, and associated test equipment. Actively participate in scrum meetings and contribute to agile development cycles. This role requires the ability to work independently while collaborating closely with a small, cross-functional software and hardware team to meet critical customer deadlines. Additional responsibilities may be assigned as needed.
This position is based in our Healdsburg, CA office and is a full-time, exempt, non-supervisory role.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement features for gimbal sensor systems
- Resolve bugs in software systems
- Conduct system testing using embedded processors, circuit boards, and test equipment
- Participate in scrum meetings and agile development cycles
- Collaborate with cross-functional software and hardware teams
- Work independently to meet critical customer deadlines
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Computer Science
- C++ and embedded development experience
- Collaborative team experience (Scrum)
- Familiarity with Linux command line and operating system fundamentals
- Capacity to work in a team with minimal supervision and agility to handle multiple projects simultaneously
Preferred Skills
- RTOS environment experience
- Cross-platform development
- Knowledge of serial communication: SPI, UART, I2C
- Knowledge of threading, synchronization, networking
- Active security clearance

Pay
The salary for this role, depending on degree and experience, is $90,000 to $110,000 a year. Arete considers several factors when extending an offer of employment, including but not limited to the position and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, education/training, and key skills.

- U.S. citizenship is required to meet position eligibility.
- Successful passage of a criminal background screen is required to meet position eligibility.
- Selected applicants will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.
- Successful passage of a Department of Transportation (DOT) drug test is required to meet position eligibility.
