Software Engineer
About the role
This role focuses on designing and building a real-time data ecosystem that integrates high-speed sensor, telemetry, and video data. You will help create pipelines that ingest and process data from players, balls, cameras, and high-speed video capture, delivering near-real-time insights within a larger distributed architecture. The team is driving toward a minimum viable product by year-end, with strong potential for ongoing development and expansion of the platform beyond the initial release.
Responsibilities
- Design and develop real-time and near-real-time software systems that process high-volume telemetry and control data.
- Build, integrate, and optimize pipelines for high-speed sensor, telemetry, and video data from multiple sources.
- Contribute to the overall system architecture and distributed system design, ensuring scalability, reliability, and performance.
- Implement production-ready software primarily in C++ and C#, writing clean, maintainable, and testable code.
- Support the full software development lifecycle, including requirements gathering, design, implementation, testing, and deployment.
- Collaborate closely with onsite engineering and product stakeholders to refine requirements and align technical solutions with product goals.
- Participate in biweekly meetings and other customer-facing discussions, clearly communicating technical concepts and project status.
- Provide technical leadership within a relatively junior team, guiding design decisions and mentoring other developers as needed.
- Adapt to new languages, tools, and technologies as the system and ecosystem evolve.
Requirements
- Minimum of seven years of relevant software development experience, with flexibility for exceptional candidates who can be productive immediately.
- Strong proficiency in C++ and C#, with the ability to implement production-quality code in both languages.
- Proven experience developing real-time or near-real-time software systems that handle high-volume telemetry and control data.
- Hands-on experience with real-time messaging and distributed systems, such as ROS or DDS, or similar technologies.
- Strong system architecture experience, including experience making architectural decisions for distributed and real-time systems.
- Demonstrated ability to provide technical leadership while remaining actively involved in coding.
- Ability to communicate effectively with customers and internal stakeholders, including in recurring meetings.
- Willingness to learn and adopt new languages and technologies as needed for the project.
Qualifications
- Experience with embedded software development and real-time operating systems (RTOS).
- Familiarity with embedded platforms such as Yocto, QNX, or similar environments.
- Interest in or exposure to AI and IoT technologies, with openness to applying them within the system.
- Experience working in small, agile teams where individuals take on multiple responsibilities.
- Experience working on systems that integrate sensor data, video streams, or other high-throughput data sources.
Work environment
You will join a small, close-knit engineering team of approximately seven developers, where most team members currently have around two years of experience and are looking to a more expert-level engineer for technical guidance. The environment encourages wearing multiple hats, contributing not only to coding but also to architecture, process improvement, and customer interaction. The team collaborates with clients located on the West Coast and supports remote work for those engagements. Locally, the office offers flexibility, allowing team members to work from home as needed while still maintaining strong collaboration and communication. The culture values ownership, adaptability, and a hands-on approach to building complex, real-time distributed systems.
