About the Role
We are seeking a talented Mid-level or above Android Developer to join our dynamic team in Providence, New York, or remotely. In this role, you will be instrumental in maintaining and enhancing the Splitwise Android app, primarily written in Kotlin. You will work closely with the mobile engineering team, reporting directly to our Head of Mobile Engineering, Marshall. This position offers a unique opportunity to influence the future of a widely used app, contribute to innovative product design decisions, and learn cutting-edge Android development practices within a supportive and growth-oriented environment.
Responsibilities
- Deploy updates to the Google Play Store at least once a month, ensuring smooth releases
- Implement new features and modernize existing functionalities to enhance user experience
- Collaborate with server and product teams to plan and execute internal API updates and new feature development
- Support users directly by addressing issues and fixing bugs promptly
- Write and maintain comprehensive tests for new updates to ensure app stability and reliability
- Participate in code reviews and team discussions to uphold high-quality standards
- Stay updated with the latest Android development trends and incorporate relevant features into the app
- Contribute to a collaborative team environment, sharing knowledge and best practices
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, Information Systems, or a closely related field, or equivalent experience
- Proven experience with Kotlin and the Android ecosystem
- Ability to write clean, maintainable, and testable code
- Strong problem-solving skills with a focus on understanding issues thoroughly before coding
- Excellent teamwork skills with empathy and respect for colleagues
- Experience with deploying updates to Google Play and maintaining app releases
- Familiarity with writing unit and integration tests for Android applications
Skills
- Experience maintaining Android applications with a substantial user base (valued but not required)
- Fintech industry experience (valued but not required)
- Knowledge of client/server syncing on mobile platforms (valued but not required)
