Software Engineer 3 - AI / ML / Cloud
About the role
This role is a Software Engineer 3 position within HPE Networking, focusing on the development of AI-driven capabilities for the Mist platform in the data center. It is a hybrid role with an average of 2 days per week working from an HPE office.
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and operate large-scale data pipelines that ingest and process network telemetry at cloud scale.
- Develop routing intelligence capabilities to detect, troubleshoot, predict, and mitigate network issues in multi-tenant data center environments.
- Build scalable, highly available services on the Mist platform, contributing across the stack from data ingestion through analytics.
- Design and develop software for cloud-native distributed systems with a focus on scalability, reliability, and performance.
- Collaborate with engineering teams to build AI-powered networking solutions that improve operational efficiency and customer experience.
- Leverage modern AI-assisted development tools, including GitHub Copilot, to improve engineering productivity.
Requirements
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related technical field.
- Minimum of 5 years of professional software engineering experience.
- Hands-on experience building cloud-native applications and processing large-scale data.
- Experience with distributed streaming and data processing technologies such as Kafka, Apache Storm, or Apache Flink.
- Experience with distributed databases such as Cassandra, ArangoDB, Elasticsearch, or similar technologies.
- Recent experience using AI-assisted coding tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot) in day-to-day software development.
- Strong software development skills and excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
- Working knowledge of networking fundamentals and routing protocols.
- Experience building highly scalable distributed systems or cloud services.
- Interest in AI-driven networking, data analytics, and autonomous operations.

The expected salary/wage range for this position is provided below. Actual offer may vary from this range based upon geographic location, work experience, education/training, and/or skill level. – United States of America: Annual Salary USD 120,500 - 243,000 in California
