Software Engineer 2
Location: Annapolis Junction, MD | Onsite | Clearance Required: TS/SCI with Polygraph | Full-Time
About the role
Join a growing team at Weeghman & Briggs supporting critical government initiatives. This opportunity is part of an Enterprise IT contract with a team of SIGDEV Analysts, Systems Engineers, Junior Engineers, Telecommunication Technical Analysts, and System Administrators. You will contribute to the architecture, engineering, integration, operations, maintenance, and sustainment of a multi-level Enterprise IT environment in a worldwide mission-critical setting.
Responsibilities
- Support mission-critical programs in secure government environments.
- Contribute ideas to improve processes, efficiency, and performance.
- Work directly with mission users to capture workflows, document operational decision points, and translate them into effective AI-enabled capabilities.
- Design and implement solutions, including LLM-powered workflows, agent-based automation, or hybrid approaches based on mission needs.
- Collaborate with operators, analysts, developers, and mission leadership to ensure solutions integrate with existing systems, perform reliably, and adhere to security and governance standards.
- Analyze user requirements to derive software design and performance requirements.
- Debug existing software and correct defects.
- Provide recommendations for improving documentation and software development process standards.
- Design and code new software or modify existing software to add new features.
- Integrate existing software into new or modified systems or operating environments.
- Develop simple data queries for existing or proposed databases or data repositories.
- Write or review software and system documentation.
- Serve as team lead at the level appropriate to the software development process.
- Design or implement complex database or data repository interfaces/queries.
- Develop or implement algorithms to meet or exceed system performance and functional standards.
- Assist with developing and executing test procedures for software components.
- Develop software solutions by analyzing system performance standards, conferring with users or system engineers, and investigating problem areas.
- Modify existing software to correct errors, adapt to new hardware, or improve performance.
- Design, develop, and modify software systems using scientific analysis and mathematical models to predict outcomes.
- Design or implement complex algorithms requiring adherence to strict timing, system resource, or interface constraints.
- Perform quality control on team products.
- Implement recommendations for improving documentation and software development process standards.
- Oversee one or more software development teams to ensure work aligns with software development process constraints.
- Confer with system engineers and hardware engineers to derive software requirements and project limitations.
- Coordinate software system installation and monitor equipment functioning to ensure operational specifications are met.
Requirements
- Active TS/SCI with Polygraph clearance.
- Fourteen (14) years of experience as a Software Engineer in programs and contracts of similar scope, type, and complexity.
- A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related discipline from an accredited college or university (four years of additional SWE experience may substitute for the degree).
- 3+ years of experience in AI/ML engineering, data science, or software engineering within cyber, intelligence, or national security environments.
- Experience capturing user workflows and translating them into structured process maps, automation requirements, or executable logic.
- Experience designing or implementing LLM-based or agentic workflows, including multi-step reasoning, tool integrations, and orchestration.
- Experience integrating AI systems with APIs, enterprise data stores, or mission platforms.
- Experience with programming languages such as Python.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience engineering AI capabilities in on-premise or multi-classification environments.
- Experience with AWS or Azure, including work in restricted or classified environments.
- Experience with AI/LLM development frameworks such as LangChain, LangGraph, PydanticAI, or CrewAI.
- Experience with ML frameworks such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, vLLM, or llama.cpp.
- Experience with cyber or intelligence workflows, operational data types, or mission-oriented analytical processes.
- Master’s degree in AI, ML, Data Science, Cybersecurity, or Engineering.
Pay
The projected salary range for this position is $206,600–$229,600, dependent upon experience, qualifications, and contract requirements.
