About the role
The Software Engineer 2 independently designs, develops, tests, and delivers features within a Scaled Agile (SAFe) team environment. This role focuses on building and integrating software components that support and extend Teamcenter and associated Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) capabilities.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and test operating systems-level software, compilers, and network distribution software.
- Set operational specifications, and formulate and analyze software requirements.
- May design embedded systems software.
- Collaborate with developers, testers, product owners, system engineers, solution architects, and administrators to refine requirements, resolve issues, and improve overall system performance and reliability.
- Contribute to applications and services that manage and process large-scale configuration management data used by Teamcenter and other internal systems.
- Work on designing and implementing components that support data integrations, automation, workflows, and user facing capabilities across multiple technical domains without requiring deep specialization in any one area.
- Apply solid programming skills to handle moderately complex tasks, support architectural discussions, and help improve development processes and team delivery practices.
Requirements
- Must Have:
- Bachelor's Degree and 2 years of relevant exempt experience;
- Master's Degree and 0 year of relevant professional experience.
- One of the following may be used as an equivalent to Bachelor's Degree for Information Technology Related Positions Only:
- NNS Apprentice School graduate
- Navy Nuclear Power School (NNPS) graduate
- Associate's Degree or other formal 2 year program and 2 years of relevant exempt experience or 4 years of relevant non-exempt experience
- Military Paygrade E-5 or above military experience
- High School/GED and 4 years combined of Manufacturing, Shipbuilding, Trades, Military experience or other relevant exempt experience
- High School/GED and 8 years combined of Manufacturing, Shipbuilding, Trades, Military experience or other relevant non-exempt experience
- A relevant professional certification can be substituted for a Bachelor's Degree.
- Basic understanding of Microsoft Visual Studio and modern development toolchains.
- Programming in C/C++, C#, .NET, Java, or Python (with the ability to work across multiple languages as needed).
- Understanding of product development processes using PLM systems, preferably Teamcenter.
- Familiarity with IT systems architecture and practical experience using the Software Development Life Cycle.
- Ability to adapt to changing priorities and work both independently and within a team environment.
- Strong written and oral communication skills and effective collaboration with cross-functional teams.
- Exposure to DevOps practices and tools such as CI/CD pipelines, Git, or Azure DevOps.
- Understanding of software testing practices and designs, including Test Driven Development (TDD), common design patterns (such as Dependency Injection, Adapters), and unit testing frameworks (e.g., MSTest, NUnit).
- Must Have:
