Software Engineer 2

Purpose and Impact

Amentum is seeking a Software Engineer to join our team in Ft. Meade, MD. This role supports mission-critical projects that enhance national security and intelligence.

Essential Responsibilities

• Analyze system requirements to develop high-quality software meeting specified requirements.
• Work independently on moderately complex projects, mentor junior developers, and contribute to technical decisions.
• Deliver projects with a proven track record.

Must be able to work in a collaborative environment. Minimal supervision required. Must be able to work safely and adhere to Amentum’s safety culture.

Other Responsibilities

• Safety: Develop and maintain a safe work environment, complete training, fulfill self-aid/buddy aid responsibilities, participate in emergency response tasks, and serve on safety committees and teams.
• Quality: Conform to Amentum’s Quality Policy and customer contracts, read and understand Quality Management and Customer Satisfaction responsibilities.
• Procedure Compliance: Read, understand, and implement operational, safety, quality, and environmental requirements of all plans, procedures, and policies.

Minimum Requirements (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)

• Develops, maintains, and enhances complex software systems based on documented requirements.
• Works individually or as part of a team, reviews and tests software components, resolves software problem reports, utilizes appropriate software development methodologies, and provides input to system design.
• Communicates effectively (written and verbal), writes clean, maintainable, well-tested code, optimizes application performance and scalability, participates in code reviews, and collaborates with cross-functional teams.
• Experience with full stack development, front-end development, relational databases (PostgreSQL), Java, Spring Boot, Angular, and AWS.

Desired Skills

• Full stack developer experience.
• Experience with version control (Git).

Clearance Required

TS/SCI clearance with polygraph.

Minimum Education and Experience

• Bachelor's Degree or higher in computer engineering or related field.
• 9 years of relevant experience (5 years of Software Engineering experience + 4 years of education).

Salary Range

$150,000 - $170,000
