About the role

The Luna Streaming Instance Provisioning Service (SIPS) team is looking for a Software Development Manager to lead a team of engineers responsible for the critical control-plane systems that power Amazon's cloud gaming platform. SIPS sits at the heart of the game streaming stack, owning streaming capacity and infrastructure, customer routing, session management, and queuing systems that work together to connect customers to the right streaming resources with high availability and low latency.

Responsibilities

  • Own the technical vision, architecture, roadmap, and execution for highly available distributed systems supporting large-scale game streaming workloads.
  • Drive intelligent routing and session placement strategies using customer latency, capacity availability, game requirements, and infrastructure health to deliver a reliable and low-latency streaming experience.
  • Own session lifecycle and queuing systems, ensuring the platform scales effectively during demand spikes, capacity constraints, infrastructure failures, and major game launches.
  • Drive capacity planning, provisioning, allocation, and fleet utilization across GPU-based EC2 infrastructure while balancing customer experience, availability, and infrastructure cost.
  • Improve platform scalability, resiliency, automation, observability, and operational excellence, reducing manual operations and preventing recurring customer-impacting issues.
  • Partner with Streaming, Game Publishing, Product, EC2, and other AWS infrastructure teams to deliver cross-organizational initiatives and ensure capacity and infrastructure readiness for major launches.
  • Establish mechanisms and metrics for availability, latency, queue experience, capacity readiness, utilization, and operational health.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of engineering team management experience
  • 7+ years of working directly within engineering teams experience
  • 3+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
  • 8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience
  • Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations
  • Experience partnering with product or program management teams

  • Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers
