Software Development Manager, AWS Aurora PostgreSQL engine

About the role

The Aurora PostgreSQL engine team is seeking a Software Development Manager to revolutionize distributed, cloud-native databases. Amazon Aurora is a cloud-native relational database that combines the scalability and performance of the best NoSQL databases with full compatibility to PostgreSQL. This role involves owning a core part of the database engine charter, focusing on Aurora PostgreSQL availability and data plane upgrades.

Responsibilities

• Own and guide the development of high availability and data plane upgrades for Aurora PostgreSQL, ensuring they are seamless and low-downtime for customers.
• Collaborate with Aurora leadership to shape a vision for the team and align the roadmap and deliveries with product management.
• Work closely with engineers to deeply dive into complex availability issues impacting customers, driving short and long-term mitigations or features.
• Leverage GenAI/LLM tools such as Kiro Cli to accelerate innovation.

Requirements

• 3+ years of engineering team management experience
• 7+ years of Software Engineer, Software Developer, or related occupational experience
• 7+ years of leading the definition and development of multi-tier web services
• 1+ years of providing technical leadership and project management for all aspects of the software development lifecycle
• 1+ years of developing large-scale, multi-tiered distributed software systems using Java, C#, or C++
• 1+ years of developing large-scale, multi-tiered distributed software systems using service-oriented architecture
• 1+ years of developing large-scale, multi-tiered distributed software systems using distributed programming
• Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field
• Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy
• Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective
• Experience building core engine of large scale data systems, or experienced with PostgreSQL engineering

Qualifications

• Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations
• Experience partnering with product or program management teams

Skills

• Strong ownership and leadership skills
• Ability to communicate effectively with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership
• Experience in managing and leading a team of software engineers
• Knowledge of PostgreSQL and experience in building large-scale, distributed systems
• Experience with GenAI/LLM tools such as Kiro Cli

Pay

The base salary range for this position is $184,900.00 - $250,200.00 USD annually.
