About the Role

Scientific Games is the global leader in lottery games, sports betting, and technology, serving as the partner of choice for government lotteries. The Software Development Manager oversees major implementation projects for the central gaming system software group, owning all aspects of software delivery—from clarifying requirements to enabling the sale and cashing of lottery products. This role involves planning, monitoring data conversions, and managing new features, reports, interfaces, and the teams that develop them. It is a highly respected, challenging, and rewarding position that demands a blend of technical expertise, communication skills, and project and personnel management.

The day-to-day responsibilities include managing people and projects, guiding software direction, gathering and reviewing requirements, driving estimation, and ensuring timely delivery.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical guidance and mentoring to team members to complete work items.
  • Support team members in developing technical and professional skills to foster career growth.
  • Create and communicate plans, schedules, and status updates to management and customers.
  • Collect and document business requirements as needed.
  • Develop and monitor project schedules in collaboration with senior management.
  • Assist software engineers with hands-on code implementation, architecture, and design.
  • Mentor, evaluate, resolve conflicts, and recognize staff to maintain motivation and engagement.
  • Demonstrate initiative and accountability for timely, thorough task completion.
  • Ensure developers deliver high-quality work on schedule, aligned with technical and product requirements.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of new programming methods and technologies.
  • Engage directly with customers for various project components.
  • Supervise production support activities outside normal office hours.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Travel: 25%

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • 10+ years of management experience.
  • 5+ years of senior programming experience, preferably in large-scale transaction processing or complex systems.
  • Familiarity with current software design methodology and architecture.
  • Experience with industry-standard source control/configuration tools.
  • Experience with real-time server programming, high-availability environments, or user interface implementation (a plus).
  • Ability to mentor and manage developers through high-pressure projects.
  • Knowledge of security concepts and industry standards.
  • Familiarity with multiple SDLC processes and methodologies.
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal communication, and writing skills.
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to thrive in a dynamic, customer-centric environment.
