About the role

We are looking for a passionate individual with an entrepreneurial mindset to lead a team of engineers building high-performing, fluid applications that interact with distributed cloud-hosted systems. This role starts with an equity-based compensation package and will transition to a salaried position as the company grows.

You will partner with product managers, project managers, and other internal teams to deliver innovative solutions in marketing, mobile strategy, data analytics, and more.

Location: Chicago, Illinois
Reports to: Adrian Delancy, Technology

Responsibilities

  • Manage all activities of the software development team
  • Set attainable goals for team members to ensure projects are completed on time
  • Provide mentorship and career guidance to team members
  • Ensure timelines are followed by the software development team
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Represent the software department in leadership meetings
  • Lead and grow a team of software engineers in an Agile environment
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related field
  • 3+ years of experience as a professional software development engineer building production-quality mobile or web applications
  • 2+ years of people management experience
  • Proficiency in at least one modern programming language such as Python, JavaScript, Ruby on Rails, or Java

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience building complex software systems successfully delivered to customers
  • Knowledge of professional software engineering practices and best practices for the full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations
  • Ability to take a project from scoping requirements through launch
  • Experience communicating with users, technical teams, and management to collect requirements, describe software features, and present technical designs
