Software Development Engineer, Sr
Job Summary
We are seeking a Senior Software Development Engineer to join our Shelby team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the planning, design, verification, and overall coordination of safety-certified aerospace actuation applications. This role requires adherence to DO-178C/ED-12C and other customer-specific requirements.
About the Role
Collaborates with other team members to optimize performance and robustness while achieving certification objectives for hardware (DO-254/ED-80), equipment/system (ARP4754), and safety (ARP4761).
Responsibilities
- Performs activities in accordance with DO-178C/ED-12C and other customer-specific requirements.
- Collaborates with the internal process assurance team and external certification-related personnel.
- Works with project leadership to develop project plans/schedules.
- Advises leadership and younger peers on resource needs.
- Oversees the development and implementation of software plans, standards, and infrastructure necessary to accomplish assigned tasks.
- Engages in vendor/supplier and customer discussions related to their tasks and travels as required.
Requirements
- Must be a US Citizen.
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science/Engineering, or Software Engineering.
- 10+ years of experience.
- Experience with DO-178C/ED-12C software certification.
- Experience in the development of actuator and motor controllers.
- Software or firmware development experience for embedded (e.g., bare metal) controllers.
- Strong oral and written communication skills with knowledge of MS Office and Visio.
- Refined soft skills for coaching/mentoring and working with other team members.
- Excellent analysis and decision-making skills.
- Strong customer interface capabilities and negotiation skills.
- Ability to interact and collaborate with internal and external program management.
- Creativity, innovation, and commitment to excellence with the ability to work in a diverse, fast-paced environment.
Qualifications
- Experience with pre-contract customer discussions, briefing technical capabilities, conducting in-person trade study discussions, including schedule and cost impacts, and shaping technical requirements.
- Review vendor experience and capability to support software development.
Skills
- Familiarity with the use of microprocessors to implement embedded software solutions relevant to motion/motor control and power conversion applications in aerospace environments.
- Interfaces frequently and well with the internal process assurance team and external certification-related personnel.
- Comfortable engaging in vendor/supplier and current/future customer discussions related to their tasks and traveling as required.
