Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET)

Piper Companies is hiring for an Education Technology and Services company located in Chapel Hill, NC. This is a 9-month contract opportunity with a hybrid schedule requiring on-site work in Durham, NC 2 days per week.

About the role

As a Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET), you will apply your knowledge and skills to identify and fix issues in code while helping to automate testing frameworks.

Responsibilities

• Partner with engineers to understand software features, debug code, and automate repetitive tasks
• Design and implement new tools and frameworks to streamline the quality assurance process
• Collaborate with teams to understand customer usage models and develop test plans and test cases
• Plan, create, automate, and execute API, functional, and non-functional test cases
• Identify, log, and track defects; troubleshoot test failures across sprints
• Provide transparency to stakeholders by presenting test artifacts and results
• Perform exploratory and automation testing to ensure high test coverage
• Produce consistent, high-quality automation code with extensive unit, API, and regression test coverage

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field
• 5+ years of SDET experience with strong coding and software quality skills
• Proficiency in Python and TypeScript
• Strong AWS experience (Lambda, CloudFormation, Glue, etc.)
• Hands-on experience with Cypress, Playwright, and test automation for web apps and microservices
• Familiarity with automation frameworks (Modular, Keyword-Driven, Data-Driven, Hybrid)
• Experience integrating tests into CI/CD pipelines and working with DevOps tools
