About the role

As a Software Development Engineer III, you will analyze, design, code, test, maintain, debug, and modify software, applications, and systems for local, networked, web, mobile, or cloud-based technologies in an agile team environment. This hybrid role is based at our campus in Mountlake Terrace, Washington.

Responsibilities

• Consult with business partners and IT leaders to identify and understand problems or improvement opportunities, recommending scalable and performant technology solutions with a system-wide architectural view.
• Analyze moderate to high-risk business needs and design solutions across various platforms, using techniques like prototyping, proof of concept, and reference implementation while considering cross-system integration and dependencies.
• Develop and modify code and system setups based on program specifications using multiple programming languages or platforms, applying CI/CD practices and continuously improving systems.
• Provide technical advice and support to other team members.
• Perform unit testing, test automation, and document results; participate in cross-functional project testing efforts.
• Produce technical documentation and notifications for production changes or fixes, including SDLC artifacts.
• Analyze and resolve moderate to high-risk production problems, including performance tuning, debugging, root cause analysis, and participation in call-rotation.
• Collaborate with design teams and stakeholders to meet development milestones, provide peer design feedback, and act as a technical resource for the team and broader developer community.
• Mentor or advise less experienced staff and share knowledge across Premera’s developer community.
• Provide input on IT process standardization and ensure adherence to engineering best practices.
• Stay current with industry trends and opportunities, participate in educational opportunities, and share knowledge with teammates.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
• Five years of software development experience, including knowledge of the software development lifecycle and proficiency in one or more programming languages.

Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience working with cloud solutions.
• Experience in the healthcare industry or another highly regulated environment.
• Previous experience in an agile environment.
• Exposure to API and service-based technologies.
• Experience using and creating automated test tools.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices.
• Familiarity with containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes).
• Experience leveraging AI coding assistants and prompt engineering in software development workflows.
• Exposure to enterprise systems, customer-facing portals, or large-scale integration platforms.

Physical Requirements

• Primarily a sedentary role requiring the ability to exert up to 10 lbs. of force occasionally.

Pay

The salary for this role varies based on geographic location, market conditions, and specific skills and experience. The posted range is $111,900.00 - $190,200.00 (National Plus Salary Range, used in higher cost of labor markets including Western Washington and Alaska). Compensation will be discussed further during the interview process.
