Software Development Engineer II, Consumer Mobile
About the role
The role is for a backend engineer in the Consumer organization at CarGurus. The Consumer organization drives the core functionality of the business that consumers see and use. The Consumer Mobile App team is rebuilding and reimagining the user experience to help customers find the perfect car.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with fellow engineers, designers, product managers, and analysts to take an idea from concept to technical design to implementation to testing to measurement
- Drive impact forward by implementing new consumer-facing features, integrating with key partners or technologies
- Be deeply engaged in the full development lifecycle, designing, developing, testing, deploying, maintaining, monitoring, and improving software
- Investigate, identify, and implement API performance enhancements
- Advocate for new technology and methodologies
- Continuously learn and expand your capabilities
Requirements
- 2-5 years of hands-on software design and development experience
- Expert in Object-Oriented Programming (Java required), ideally in fast-paced environments
- Solid experience in the data layer including SQL, caching strategies, and storage alternatives
- A strong understanding of data structures, algorithms, and complexity analysis
- Experience working with web-tier technologies and strategies
- Experience working in cross-functional teams with front-end engineers, Product, and UX
- The ability to iterate and ship ideas quickly
- Experience with A/B testing and/or performance testing
- Experience with AWS
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering
Skills
- Expertise in Java
- Strong understanding of data structures and algorithms
- Experience with web-tier technologies
- Experience with AWS

Pay
The displayed range represents the expected annual base salary / On-Target Earnings (OTE) for this position. On-Target Earnings (OTE) is inclusive of base salary and on-target commission earnings, which applies exclusively to sales roles. Individual pay within this range is determined by work location and other factors such as job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. This annual base salary forms part of a comprehensive Total Rewards Package. In addition to benefits, this role may qualify for discretionary bonuses/incentives and Restricted Stock Units (RSUs).
Schedule
The role is available in a hybrid model, allowing for a mix of remote and in-office work. Candidates selected for an in-person interview will be notified in advance. Please be aware that travel expenses are the responsibility of the candidate.
