About the role
The Core Networking team is looking for a Software Development Engineer to join our Network Fabric Engineering (NFE) team. As a Software Development Engineer, you will be responsible for building software services to deploy and scale the Amazon networks that support AWS, customers, and other business units, across multiple global datacenters.
Responsibilities
- We are looking for an experienced Software Development Engineer with production quality software services experience.
- You are comfortable working in a fast-paced environment where delivery of new services and features is very rapid.
- The ideal candidate will demonstrate established software engineering expertise, having successfully developed and launched extensive distributed systems in collaboration with a team.
- You are adaptable, capable of excelling in a dynamic and entrepreneurial setting.
- You will be responsible for delivering high quality, extensible design and code.
- You are expected to have extensive background in network engineering and can troubleshoot network issues.
- You are expected to mentor and guide junior engineers.
- You are comfortable managing competing priorities and are able to bring order to ambiguous scenarios.
- You identify and implement optimizations for performance, scalability, and efficiency.
- Maturity, impeccable judgment, and the ability to influence and lead are essential to success in this role.
- You are data-driven and analytical.
- You have the ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both in writing and verbally, across organizations.
Requirements
The ideal candidate should have:
- A Bachelor's degree or equivalent 3+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience.
- 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience.
- Experience programming with at least one software programming language, or experience (non-internship) in professional software development.
- 2+ years of work with networking fundamentals or Internet protocols such as TCP/IP, UDP, SSL, DNS, HTTP/S, or equivalent experience.
- 2+ years of experience with major internet routing protocols; specifically, BGP, OSPF, MPLS, RSVP and ISIS in a large enterprise environment.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field.
- Knowledge of network analysis fundamentals and robust troubleshooting skills; specifically, network performance analysis.
- Experience working with customers to diagnose a problem, and work toward resolution.
- Expert-level certifications (e.g. CCNP, JNCIP) a plus.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
