Software Development Engineer, Elastic Block Store (EBS), AWS (L5), EBS Stats
Amazon Elastic Block Store (EBS) is seeking experienced software development engineers to help build the future of cloud storage. EBS provides high-performance virtualized storage for Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2) and serves as a key building block for applications ranging from databases to distributed file systems and Hadoop clusters. As part of the EBS team, you will own the design, implementation, and operation of one of the world’s largest distributed systems, working closely with a tight, agile team that delivers features continuously and directly impacts real customers.
About the role
As a member of the AWS Utility Computing (UC) organization, you will support the development and management of Compute, Database, Storage, Internet of Things (IoT), Platform, and Productivity Apps services in AWS. This includes working with customers who require specialized security solutions for their cloud services. You will develop software on the latest platforms, drive the roadmap for the next generation of compute instances, and have an immediate impact on millions of customers by reducing latencies and improving the AWS customer experience.
Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and operate large-scale distributed systems.
- Develop software across the full software development lifecycle, including design, coding, testing, code reviews, deployment, and service maintenance.
- Lead project initiatives, influence the team’s long-term vision and strategies, and partner with senior engineers and customers.
- Enable customers to generate strategic and operational insights from fleet telemetry in a self-service manner by building and operating high-throughput, distributed systems that process petabytes of data in real-time with sub-minute latency.
- Support the ingestion, transformation, publishing, querying, and visualization of petabyte-scale fleet telemetry data, feeding it into standard monitoring tools.
- Participate in on-call rotations (typically one week every three months) to ensure system reliability and fault tolerance.
Requirements
- 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience.
- 2+ years of non-internship experience in designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability, and scaling) new and existing systems.
- Experience programming with at least one software programming language.
Preferred Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience in the full software development lifecycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations.
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent.
