HybridResearchFull-time

Siemens Digital Industries Software is a leading provider of solutions for the design, simulation, and manufacture of products across many different industries. Formula 1 cars, skyscrapers, ships, space exploration vehicles, and many of the objects we see in our daily lives are being conceived and manufactured using our Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) software.

About the role

Siemens is looking for an expert in computational contact mechanics and commercial finite element software development. This position entails developing and deploying production FEA solutions within Siemens PLM finite element software programs. The main objective is to develop and enhance contact and constraint capabilities in implicit nonlinear and linear analyses for deployment in Simcenter Optistruct, Siemens’ flagship finite element software program. Robustness and usability of the features delivered will drive future responsibilities and objectives in this role.

You will be part of an experienced and knowledgeable team of computational mechanics developers, and report to a manager in the Simcenter Optistruct development team.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and deploy finite element capabilities and libraries for consumption in Simcenter Optistruct.
  • Work with Development Manager and Product Managers to understand customer requirements related to contact and constraint, and translate them to PDE, ODE (Partial and Ordinary Differential Equations), algebraic equations, data structures, and algorithms with an emphasis on accuracy, robustness, performance scalability, and architecture.
  • Work with QA, Technical Support, and Technical Documentation groups to verify implementation, develop examples, and documentation.

Requirements

  • PhD in Applied and/or Computational Mechanics, or Applied Mathematics, or Mechanical, Aerospace, Civil, or Bio/Biomedical Engineering, with a focus on theoretical and computational aspects of development for contact mechanics of structures and relevant multiphysics.
  • Proven hands-on experience in finite element development for large-deformation contact mechanics for implicit nonlinear structural FEA.
  • Demonstrated knowledge in continuum mechanics and FEA, and ability to:
    • Design and implement algorithms/data structures for computational contact mechanics.
    • Contribute in the value chain from engineering problem statement, through PDE formulation, weak form, residual, linearization, geometrical search, robustness, and parallelization.
    • Develop software programs in Fortran/C++/C.
  • Excellent oral and written English communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in an agile team by defining and planning the work of development, QA, and Application engineers.
  • Ability to communicate a clear understanding of the technology to other teams and customers.
  • HPC (High Performance Computing) experience in shared and distributed memory parallelization.

Qualified Applicants must be legally authorized for employment in the United States and will not require employer-sponsored work authorization now or in the future.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with modern CPU optimization, vectorization, and GPU programming.
  • Experience with agile development methods and tools.

Benefits

We offer great benefits and rewards, as you'd expect from a world leader in industrial software. Working at Siemens Software means flexibility—choosing between working at home and the office at other times is the norm here.
