Software Development Engineer, Amazon S3 Index Routing

About the role

AWS S3 is one of the largest distributed storage systems in the world, managing trillions of objects and providing sub-x ms retrieval. S3 Index develops software for durability and availability of key-value metadata. The role involves building the next generation of S3 Index systems.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain software for durability and availability of key-value metadata in S3.
• Build systems that handle varying access patterns and unprecedented loads.
• Ensure data consistency across S3 Index while managing growth automatically.
• Own the full routing stack, including handling and directing customer requests, caching, throttling, and ensuring data consistency.
• Deliver a cohesive, end-to-end customer experience by reducing latency and improving reliability.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent 4+ years of professional software development experience.
• 3+ years of non-internship design or architecture experience, including object-oriented design.
• Experience with large-scale distributed storage or data systems.

Qualifications

• Master's degree or equivalent preferred.
• Strong operational excellence mindset with experience in automation.
• Experience with AI-powered coding assistants and agentic development tools.
• Experience mentoring junior engineers and driving technical best practices.

Skills

• Proficiency in modern programming languages such as Java, C++, or C#.
• Experience with large-scale distributed systems.

Pay

The base salary range for this position is $143,700.00 - $194,400.00 annually.
