About the role

We're looking for a Software Development Engineer II to design and build the systems powering Amazon's next-generation Lists and Collaborative Shopping experiences. Our team is re-imagining how hundreds of millions of customers curate, discover, and connect through lists. We're applying generative AI to transform Wish Lists, shared lists, gifting, and collaborative shopping into intelligent, personalized experiences on top of Tier-1 systems serving billions of daily requests across every Amazon surface.

You'll work on services that power these experiences during a pivotal moment as we integrate AI-native capabilities into our core framework. This role is for someone who enjoys end-to-end ownership: diving into ambiguous customer problems, designing distributed systems that scale, writing production code, and measuring customer impact. You'll work across our full stack (back end services, APIs, and integrations with Amazon's shopping ecosystem) and partner closely with applied scientists, product managers, and designers to ship features that customers use every day.

Responsibilities

  • Design and build scalable distributed systems that power Amazon's Lists and Collaborative Shopping experiences
  • Work on end-to-end ownership of features, from problem definition to production deployment and customer impact measurement
  • Collaborate with applied scientists, product managers, and designers to integrate AI-native capabilities
  • Develop services that handle billions of daily requests across Amazon's ecosystem
  • Write production code and ensure system reliability, scalability, and performance

Requirements

  • 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
  • 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture experience (design patterns, reliability, and scaling) of new and existing systems
  • 1+ years of software development engineer or related occupational experience
  • 1+ years of designing and developing large-scale, multi-tiered, multi-threaded, embedded, or distributed software applications, tools, systems, and services using C#, C++, Java, or Perl
  • 1+ years of Object-Oriented Design experience
  • Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field
  • Experience programming with at least one software programming language

Preferred Qualifications

  • 3+ years of full software development life cycle experience, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent

Pay

USA, WA, Seattle - $143,700.00 - $194,400.00 USD annually
