Software Developer
About the Role
Amazon Leo is Amazon's low Earth orbit satellite network, designed to deliver fast, reliable internet connectivity to households, schools, hospitals, businesses, and government agencies in locations without reliable connectivity. The SDN Control Plane team designs, implements, and operates the network control plane that connects LEO satellites, customer terminals, gateways, cloud services, and terrestrial network infrastructure. As a Software Development Engineer, you will help design and deliver modern, flexible, scalable, high-throughput, low-latency network architecture at global scale. You will work on routing and forwarding, traffic engineering, SDN technologies, highly available control-plane software, and operational automation, including developing routing control-plane software for network nodes in C and Rust.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and deliver modern, flexible, scalable, high-throughput, low-latency network architecture.
- Implement routing and forwarding, traffic engineering, and Software Defined Networking (SDN) technologies.
- Develop highly available software that drives network control-plane operations on physical and remote nodes.
- Develop routing control-plane software for network nodes using C and Rust.
- Define and automate processes for software development, implementation, testing, and maintenance.
- Provide operational excellence for control-plane services.
- Develop tools that support control-plane operations.
- Define and refine operational processes.
- Design, build, and operate network control-plane services for a global LEO satellite and terrestrial network.
- Interact with satellite ground control services, customer engagement systems, and monitoring services to continuously improve network performance and customer experience.
- Help build and operate a high-throughput telecommunications service spanning satellites, customer terminals, gateways, cloud services, and terrestrial network infrastructure.
Required Qualifications
- 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience.
- 2+ years of non-internship experience with software design or architecture, including design patterns, reliability, and scaling of new and existing systems.
- Experience programming with at least one software programming language.
- Must meet applicable Amazon Leo export-control eligibility requirements: candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
Preferred Qualifications
- 3+ years of full software development life cycle experience, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent.
