About the role
We own the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. In this role, you’ll collaborate with customers, leadership, and peers to automate and invent new ways of operating the AWS network. You’ll build best practices, improve operational procedures, and deliver iterative impact with a proactive mindset. You’ll work across AWS to ensure the highest standards of safety, security, and seemingly infinite capacity at the lowest possible cost. Responsibilities
- Solve complex, ambiguous problems with efficiency and high quality.
- Shape the vision, design, roadmap, and operationalization of customer-facing services through data-driven decisions.
- Build software services that deploy and scale Amazon networks supporting AWS, customers, and other business units across multiple global datacenters.
- Develop best-in-class software systems for automating Amazon’s network.
- Use and develop tools and processes that collect and rationalize data from different sources to reduce workloads.
- Measure success using data and take responsibility for the quality of your service, striving to prevent faults from impacting customers.
- Collaborate with Network Engineering teams to ensure fast and smooth software roll-outs.
- Identify and troubleshoot recurring platform issues, escalating effectively to senior-level engineering teams.
- Learn, design, and build cloud-computing system software for a diverse set of customers.
- Gather requirements, generate technical designs, and carry projects through all software lifecycle stages.
- Develop products enabling builders to create and operate robust, high-quality software and deploy it safely, securely, and reliably.
- Mentor other engineers and provide training and support for technologies.
Requirements
- 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience.
- 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture experience (design patterns, reliability, and scaling) of new and existing systems.
- 2+ years of experience designing and developing large-scale, multi-tiered, multi-threaded, embedded, or distributed software applications, tools, systems, and services using C#, C++, Java, or Perl.
- Experience programming with at least one software programming language.
Preferred Qualifications
- 3+ years of full software development life cycle experience, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations.
About the team
The CASE (Compliance and Security) team ensures the security and compliance of the CLOS fabric control plane at AWS. Responsibilities include maintaining configuration compliance across the fleet, ensuring devices run the latest approved operating systems, leading OS promotion/testing/deployment, owning the Capacity Out of Service (COOS) restoration program, and remediating control plane security issues. The broader CFE organization focuses on designing cost-effective CLOS topologies, maximizing port availability, and managing the full platform lifecycle—from hardware qualification through decommissioning.
Pay
Base salary range: $165,200 - $223,600 USD annually. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments, restricted stock units (RSUs), and comprehensive benefits such as health insurance (medical, dental, vision, prescription, Basic Life & AD&D, and optional supplemental life plans), 401(k) matching, paid time off, and parental leave.
