Softball Graduate Assistant (Labor) - Athletics

About the Role

This is a regular student labor position in which the selected candidate will assist the Head Softball Coach with the coordination, guidance, direction, and supervision of the women's soccer program. Hours per week range from 5 to 25, with the possibility of working nights, weekends, and holidays.

Department Overview

The Athletics Department at the University of Central Oklahoma supports over 400 student athletes across 15 NCAA Division II sports, including Football, Men's & Women's Basketball, Men's & Women's Golf, Baseball, Softball, Wrestling, Women's Track & Field (Indoor & Outdoor) and Cross Country, Women's Tennis, Women's Soccer, Women's Rowing, and Women's Volleyball.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Head Softball Coach with coordination, guidance, direction, and supervision of the women's soccer program.
  • Recruiting coordination.
  • Coaching student-athletes.
  • Monitoring student-athlete academic progress.
  • Game management.
  • Budget and administrative duties.
  • Travel arrangements.

Enrollment Requirements

Fall/Spring Semesters: All student employees must be enrolled at least half-time: 5 hours for graduates and 6 hours for undergraduates. F1/J1 Visa students must be enrolled full-time: 9 credit hours for graduates and 12 credit hours for undergraduates.

Summer Semester: To work in a regular student position, students must be enrolled in at least 3 summer credit hours or be enrolled in the upcoming fall semester in the minimum credit hours required for their classification. Students enrolled in fewer than 3 summer credit hours will be subject to FICA taxes. For Federal Work Study Program (FWSP) positions, students must be enrolled in at least 6 credit hours (undergraduate) or 5 credit hours (graduate).

Note: New incoming students are not eligible for student employment until the semester in which they begin classes.

Enrollment Exception: If the number of credit hours needed to graduate is less than the minimum required for student employment, the student must obtain a letter from their Academic Advisor (stating the number of hours needed to graduate and anticipated graduation date) and submit it to Human Resources.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent.
  • Valid driver's license.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Former collegiate or professional playing experience.

Skills

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office suite of programs.
  • General knowledge of NCAA Division II rules and regulations.
  • Strong desire to learn.
  • Ability to perform all tasks appointed by the head coach.
