SOESD - Early Intervention Teaching Assistant I
About the role
The Early Intervention Teaching Assistant I provides supervision and instructional activities for children with developmental delays. This position carries out group and individual instruction of children as outlined in the Individualized Family Service Plan (IFSP) under the daily supervision of the classroom teacher, with training and oversight from a consulting Early Intervention Specialist.

Responsibilities
- Prepare activities (e.g., snack, art) as directed through daily schedule or supervisor instruction.
- Implement group and individual activities designed to encourage development in communication, cognitive, self-help, social, and motor skills.
- Provide specialized assistance with feeding, toileting, and delegated nursing tasks, including medication administration, tube feeding, output measuring, and catheterization.
- Follow instructions from related service professionals regarding positioning, use of wheelchairs, communication boards, or other adaptive devices.
- Implement language and motor therapy goals as directed by therapists and report progress regularly.
- Supervise children at all times to ensure a safe learning experience.
- Assist with preparation and clean-up of the facility, including dishwashing, vacuuming, and other light housekeeping tasks.
- Maintain attendance, goal tracking sheets, and other charting as required.
- Participate as a member of the curriculum and goal planning team.
- Attend trainings as required.
- Comply with EI/ECSE and ESD rules and policies.
- Perform physical requirements unaided or with reasonable accommodation.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High school graduation or equivalency and at least one year of experience caring for children.
- Knowledge of classroom and individual behavior management techniques, language strategies, and developmentally appropriate practices.
- Ability to apply safety practices, laws, rules, regulations, confidentiality, and professional ethics.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions, learn through hands-on experiences, and communicate effectively.
- Ability to establish effective working relationships with employees, related service professionals, and parents.
- Ability to develop nurturing and supportive relationships with children and recognize and respond to their changing needs.
- Sign language skills helpful.
- With training, ability to operate computers, augmentative communication devices, wheelchairs, or other positioning or adaptive devices.
- Must obtain First Aid and CPR certification within sixty (60) days of employment.
- Must pass a background check and maintain enrollment in the Child Care Division Criminal History registry.

Pay
Per Collective Bargaining Agreement: $17.97–$21.50 an hour for the 2026–27 school year.
