Social Worker - PRN - After hours and On Call
About the role
The Social Worker PRN at Children’s Wisconsin is responsible for addressing the social, psychological, and economic needs of children and their families, particularly during acute and chronic illness. This role involves discharge planning, referrals to community agencies and programs, and educating patients and families about illness, hospital procedures, and community resources.
Responsibilities
- Short-term, crisis-oriented counseling for patients and families
- Referrals to community agencies and programs
- Educating patients and families about illness, hospital procedures, and community resources
- Assisting in planning for future health care needs of the child
- Consulting with other professional staff to ensure understanding of patients' and families' strengths and needs
- Assessing the medical care/history of the child and family to assist medical staff with diagnosis and treatment plans
- Providing courteous and helpful service to patients, families, department staff, visitors, and employees from other departments
- Being available for call to meet department needs in the care for patients and families
Requirements
Experience: 1+ years of previous social work or related field experience required. Hospital experience preferred.
Qualifications
Education: Master's Degree MSW required.
Skills
Knowledge of social work principles and practices, ability to communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare professionals, strong organizational and problem-solving skills, ability to work independently and as part of a team, and proficiency in Microsoft Office.

Pay
$45,000 - $60,000 annually based on experience and qualifications.
Schedule
Evenings, weekends, and holidays. On-call for overnight shifts with a 30-minute or less response time.
