About the role

This posting is being used to fill Social Worker positions that provide services to students at various schools within the Hawaii District as needed and assigned by the Hawaii District-East Special Education/Special Services.

Responsibilities

  • Seek to improve the overall quality of life of people within the context of their environment through the remediation and prevention of their problems.
  • Improve accessibility, accountability and coordination of service delivery among a variety of professionals and/or agencies tasked with providing appropriate services to clients.
  • Establish working relationships of mutual respect and trust with the clientele served.
  • Utilize a variety of helping interventions to enable these clients to function as effectively as possible.

Qualifications

  • Basic Education Requirement: In accordance with Act 238, SLH 2005, applicants must possess a Bachelor’s or master’s degree in social work from a program of study accredited by the Council on Social Work Education, or a doctoral degree in social work from a college or university accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges, or a comparable regional accreditation body.
  • The education background must also demonstrate the ability to write clear and comprehensive reports and other documents; read and interpret complex written material; and solve complex problems logically and systematically.
  • Note: If you will graduate within six (6) months of application from an accredited university and will meet the Education Requirement upon your graduation, you must provide a letter attesting to such from your department chair or university, along with your most current official transcripts.

Requirements

  • Final official transcripts showing receipt of the degree must be submitted upon graduation.
  • Applicants must have had progressively responsible experience of the kind and quality described in the statements below and in the amounts shown below, or any equivalent combination of training and experience.

Salary

The advertised salary is based on full-time employment and includes shortage and school year differentials, if applicable.

Requirements: Applicants must meet all the requirements for the position they are seeking as of the date of the application, unless otherwise specified. Unless specifically indicated, the required education and experience may not be gained concurrently.

Pay

Payday New employees can expect their first paycheck within the first 3 pay periods of their start date. Payday is on the 5th and 20th (or previous business day) of every month.

Additional Information

  • Hawaii State Department of Education employees will be placed on the salary range in accordance with Department regulations.
  • Temporary Assignment: Claims of Temporary Assignment (TA) experience to meet the minimum qualification requirements must be verified and attached to the application using one of the options below:
  • A copy of the applicant’s TA History Report or equivalent system-generated report;
  • A signed letter from the applicant’s supervisor that includes the applicant’s name, his/her TA job title, the TA start and end dates (from mm/yy to mm/yy), his/her specific TA duties performed, and either the TA hours worked per week or total TA hours worked;
  • Copies of the applicant’s signed SF-10 Forms.
