Fort Sill is a United States Army post located north of Lawton, Oklahoma, approximately 85 miles southwest of Oklahoma City and 50 miles north of Wichita Falls, Texas. The installation spans nearly 94,000 acres and serves as a National Historical Landmark. It is home to the United States Army Field Artillery School, the Marine Corps' Field Artillery MOS school, the United States Army Air Defense Artillery School, the 31st Air Defense Artillery Brigade, and the 75th Field Artillery Brigade. Fort Sill also hosts one of four locations for Army Basic Combat Training and has played a significant role in every major American conflict since 1869.

Lawton, Oklahoma, offers a variety of cultural and recreational opportunities, including the Museum of the Great Plains, the Comanche National Museum and Cultural Center, Elmer Thomas Park, and Lake Lawtonka, which is popular for water sports, hiking, and camping.

Responsibilities

  • Provide individual, family, and group clinical counseling services to identify and manage personal, psychological, and interactive problems associated with occupation and personal adjustment.
  • Develop individual treatment plans based on psychiatric diagnosis, identified problems, and treatment needs for each case.
  • Collect bio-psycho-social information about patients using interview, case history, and observation techniques and assessment methods.
  • Analyze information collected to determine diagnosis, treatment plan, and/or advisability of counseling or referral to other specialists or institutions.
  • Evaluate treatment effectiveness and make adjustments to patient's treatment plans as appropriate.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • A Personnel Security Investigation is required.
  • Selectees may be required to sign a statement consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
  • A pre-placement medical examination may be required.
  • Immunization screening may be required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Proof of other immunizations may be required depending on the position.
  • May be required to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Red Cross. Advanced certification (e.g., ALS) does not supersede BLS.
  • Applicants may be able to fulfill non-privileged professional credential requirements.

Qualifications

Who May Apply: US Citizens

To qualify, you must meet the education and experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). Qualifying experience must be clearly described in your resume. If qualifying based on education, transcripts will be required as part of your application.

Basic Requirement for Social Worker (Clinical):

  • Degree: Master's degree (or higher) in social work from a school accredited by the Council on Social Work Education.
  • License: Current, active, valid, and unrestricted clinical license to practice Social Work independently, offered by a U.S. State, District of Columbia, Commonwealth, territory, or jurisdiction.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes conducting bio-psychosocial evaluations of mental health patients, providing individual or group clinical counseling, and developing behavioral health treatment plans or recommendations. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11). For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone—no substitution of education for experience is permitted.

Foreign Education: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show that the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program, or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
