Social Worker - Behavioral Health Integrated Program (BHIP)

Summary

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application.

Major Duties

  • Develops psychosocial assessments and treatment plans for veterans needing interventions related to General Mental Health, including case management, individual, couples, family, and group psychotherapy.
  • Serves as a member of the Behavioral Health Program, collaborating with interdisciplinary teams to assess veterans and develop treatment plans.
  • Utilizes counseling skills to work with veterans and their families from diverse backgrounds, identifying and referring to appropriate services.
  • Implements treatment modalities in individual, family, and group settings to achieve treatment goals, demonstrating judgment and skill in crisis intervention and support.
  • Serves as a liaison between veterans and VA and community resources, ensuring thorough delivery of services and coordination of care.
  • Provides education to veterans and their families regarding community resources, VA benefits, and available health services.
  • Provides emergency/crisis intervention services to veterans experiencing acute psychological crises, stabilizing situations and arranging for inpatient care if necessary.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in social work from a CSWE-accredited school.
  • Licensure or certification as a social worker at the independent practice level in a state.
  • One year of post-MSW experience in a clinical setting, or a doctoral degree in social work.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of community resources, ability to make appropriate referrals, and coordination of services.
  • Skills in conducting psychosocial assessments, treatment interventions, and implementing different treatment modalities.
  • Ability to provide consultation services to new social workers and staff.
