Social Video Fellow

The Role

The Social Video Fellow will ideate, produce, and publish creative short-form video content across TikTok and Instagram for BuzzFeed.

Responsibilities

• Create compelling short-form video content — from concept to publishing — for BuzzFeed’s TikTok and Instagram accounts.
• Stay on top of emerging trends, memes, and sounds — and pitch creative, culturally relevant content ideas.
• Film, edit, and optimize videos quickly using mobile-first tools like CapCut, Canva, and in-app editing features.
• Be both behind and in front of the camera when needed.
• Write witty, platform-optimized captions and copy that aligns with BuzzFeed’s brand voice.
• Engage with audiences by responding to comments, surfacing insights, and participating in community conversations.
• Experiment and learn — analyze content performance, iterate based on feedback, and keep pushing creative boundaries.

Requirements

• A creative self-starter who thrives in a fast-paced, internet-first environment.
• Some experience (internships, freelance, personal projects) creating short-form video content for social media platforms including TikTok, Instagram or YouTube.
• Comfortable filming yourself or others, editing on the fly, and turning around content quickly.
• Obsessed with social media trends, memes, culture, and what makes content shareable.
• Comfortable with using mobile video editing apps (e.g., CapCut, InShot, native TikTok/Instagram tools) and basic design platforms (e.g., Canva). Proficiency with more advanced editing tools (Adobe Premiere, Final Cut, etc.) is a plus.

• Passionate about making people laugh, cry, comment, and share.
• Ready to make an impact in digital media.

Skills

• Strong storytelling and writing skills.
• Proficiency in mobile video editing apps and design platforms.
• Ability to stay current with social media trends and memes.

Benefits

• Full-time, paid position.
• Hybrid schedule with coming into the office on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

Pay

$20.00 per hour.

Full-time, based out of our NYC offices.

• Short paragraphs about what topics you’d want to cover for BuzzFeed as a Social Video Fellow, and what interests you about the content BuzzFeed makes (or what you think we could be doing better!)
• Create 1-2 TikToks or IG Reels based on a BuzzFeed quiz, and submit one video showcasing your video editing skills (can be from a previous project or a video from a personal account). Make sure at least one video features you in front of the camera. Please include the links to the posts at the end of your cover letter!
• Provide links to your public social media accounts.
• Attach a resume — keep it to one page!
