Position Overview

The Social Studies Teacher under the direction of the Building Principal plans and provides appropriate learning experiences for students. The role aims to create an atmosphere and environment that supports the intellectual, physical, social, and emotional development of students.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Provides a safe and encouraging learning environment to meet the needs, interests, and abilities of all students.
  • Plans and develops instructional plans, lessons, experiments, and other support activities to present approved district curriculum in accordance with district goals and objectives.
  • Maintains accurate records, tests, reports, etc. as required by DDOE and policies, Federal Regulations, and School Board Policy to demonstrate student performance.
  • Analyzes and uses student performance data to inform instruction.
  • Establishes and maintains good rapport and communication with students, school personnel, and parents.
  • Establishes classroom routines and procedures and implements effective classroom management.
  • Works closely with guidance/special education personnel/outside resources to assist students with special needs.
  • Integrates technology appropriately to enhance student learning and instructional delivery.
  • Remains current and knowledgeable about evidence-based practices related to teaching and learning through the active pursuit of professional development activities.
  • Participates in district and school level committees designed to foster continuing improvement and growth.
  • Communicates curriculum and student-related information effectively in oral and written form.
  • Participates in all meetings (IEP, conferences, etc.).
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Principal/Supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college.
  • Hold or eligible for a State of Delaware teacher certification in Social Studies.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of subject content, curriculum, and methodology of effective teaching.
  • Skilled in the use of multi-media and computer technology to enhance learning.
  • Established and maintains effective collaborative relationships with students, peers, administrators, and parents.
  • Demonstrated skill in oral and written communications; excellent human relations skills.
