Social Studies Teacher/Department Chair - Windsor Mill Middle
About the role
Serves as a coach and leader for teachers as they implement instruction. Under the direction of the school principal, plans and provides appropriate learning experiences for students.
Responsibilities
- Maintains a safe and orderly learning environment.
- Plans and implements instructional programs that adhere to system wide goals and priorities and meet the needs, interests, and abilities of students.
- Prepares and documents appropriate lesson plans, based upon adopted curricula, to teach instructional objectives.
- Communicates standards, achievements, and deficiencies to students and parents.
- Maintains complete and accurate student academic, attendance, and disciplinary records.
- Makes observations and provides feedback to teachers.
- Maintains an instructional environment that is conducive to the intellectual, physical, social, and emotional development of students.
- Maintains an up-to-date knowledge of curriculum and instructional methods.
- Collaborates with school administrators, other teachers, paraeducators, parents, and community members in the education of students.
- Participates in professional development activities.
- Assists teachers in analyzing multiple sources of student data and designing differentiated instructional programs to meet the needs of all students.
- Oversees the appropriate use and care of textbooks, instructional materials, facilities, and equipment.
- Attends ongoing content and leadership training, which may be held after school hours.
- Attends staff meetings.
- Serves on various committees.
Qualifications
- Education, Training and Experience: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree. Three years’ teaching experience (to include specialized areas such as guidance, speech pathologist, psychologist, PPW, etc.).
- Licenses And Certificates: Possession of a Maryland Educator Professional Certificate appropriate to the area of assignment. OR Possession of, or eligibility for, a Maryland Educator Professional License appropriate to the area of assignment. Possession of, or eligibility for, a Maryland Educator Advanced Professional Certificate or Advanced Professional License is preferred.
- Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities: Knowledge of the principles and practices of pedagogy. Knowledge of curriculum. Knowledge of effective instructional techniques. Knowledge of instructional materials and equipment. Knowledge of current issues and trends in content area. Skill in instructing students. Skill in preparing and implementing lesson plans. Skill in communicating with students, their parents, administrators, and others.
Skills
- Knowledge of and skill in the use of database, internet, spreadsheet, word processing, and related applications.
- Outstanding communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
- Ability to implement and model effective instructional strategies in the classroom.
Physical And Environmental Conditions
The work of this class is generally performed in a school environment. Work may require the ability to move around the school and classroom.
Grade 10 - Month Pay Scale
SALARY: $60,600 - $120,717 (Valid Until 12/31/2025) $61,026 - $120,717 (Effective 1/1/2026)
Other Compensation
- Position may be eligible for relocation bonus, extra duty activities pay, or other student activities pay as defined in the applicable Bargaining Unit Agreement.

- Eligible for the Maryland State Retirement System.
