Requirements

• Certified in subject area
• Bachelor's degree required
• Student teaching, substitute teaching, or teaching in private school experience

Responsibilities

• Meets and instructs assigned classes in designated locations and times
• Plans a program of study tailored to individual student needs, interests, and abilities
• Creates a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to student maturity and interests
• Prepares for classes and provides written evidence of preparation upon request
• Encourages students to maintain standards of classroom behavior
• Guides the learning process toward curriculum goals and establishes clear objectives for lessons, units, and projects
• Employs a variety of instructional techniques and media, aligned with student needs and capabilities
• Implements the district’s philosophy of education and instructional goals
• Assesses student accomplishments regularly and provides progress reports as required
• Diagnoses learning disabilities and seeks assistance from district specialists when needed
• Takes precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities
• Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law and district policy
• Assists in implementing student life and conduct policies; develops and enforces classroom rules fairly
• Makes provision for being available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside instructional hours
• Plans and supervises assignments for teacher aides and volunteers; evaluates their performance cooperatively with department heads
• Strives to maintain and improve professional competence
• Attends staff meetings and serves on staff committees as required
• Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor

Schedule

Ten-month year. Work year and salary established by the EHEA contract.
