Social Studies, Civics, and Economics Teacher - High School
Position Summary
The High School Social Studies, Civics and Economics Teacher is responsible for student learning and supervision in collaboration with colleagues, counseling staff and administration. Advise and guide students regarding academic, personal, spiritual, and vocational concerns. Design and deliver instruction to students regarding World History, Civics, and Economics through a biblical world view. Develop academic excellence, critical inquiry, and civic engagement with students and be passionate about fulfilling the King’s Schools mission of building resilient disciples of Christ.
Duties
- Design and deliver engaging, standards-aligned instruction in World History, Civics, and Economics through a Biblical worldview.
- Develop unit and lesson plans aligned with school curriculum, standards, and learning objectives/targets.
- Use a variety of instructional strategies, primary/secondary sources, and educational technologies to promote student engagement and historical thinking.
- Absess student learning through formative and summative methods and use data to inform instruction and provide timely feedback.
- Cultivate students’ critical thinking, analytical reasoning, and argumentative writing skills.
- Incorporate cross-curricular connections, particularly in literacy and writing.
- Establish and maintain high academic expectations while promoting student integrity and accountability for learning as expressions of Christian character.
- Differentiate instruction and provide appropriate scaffolding to support a diverse range of learners.
- Build Christ-centered, respectful relationships that support students’ academic, spiritual, and personal growth.
- Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, and collaborative planning with department members.
- Follow established school protocols regarding teaching, learning, and student/parent communication and engagement.
- Pursue growth both professionally and personally.
- Advise and guide students to resources regarding academic, personal, spiritual and vocational concerns.
- Update and maintain online gradebook and homework communication.
- Accurately maintain attendance and academic records.
- Conduct that reflects well on CRISTA Ministries and aligns with its mission, vision, Statement of Faith and Christian Community Representative Commitment (CCC).
Essential Qualifications
- CHRIST CENTERED: Belief that Jesus Christ is Lord and Savior. Is a committed Christian who is dedicated to continued spiritual growth and development as evidenced through a growing personal walk with God (e.g. daily spiritual rhythms of prayer, fellowship, Bible study, etc.). Prayerfully seeks God’s will in their own lives and in their ministry at CRISTA. Engages our ministry including staff and colleagues through prayer, participation in spiritual practices, leading devotionals and other spiritual practices. Affirms, aligns with and supports CRISTA’s Statement of Faith and Christian Community Representative Statement (CCC). Demonstrates the values of a CRISTA leader.
- EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university recognized by the United States Department of Education or equivalent.
- LICENSURE / CERTIFICATION: Valid teaching certificate for the State of Washington with appropriate endorsement.
- SOFTWARE / EQUIPMENT KNOWLEDGE: Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Grading software and Homework webpage.
Experience
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Prior instructional experience teaching Social Studies, Civics, and Economics.

- Remain alert to academic developments and be a continuing student of the educative process.
- Attend regularly scheduled devotions, meetings, and assigned conferences with parents or professionals.
- Maintain an active interest in the church (local and worldwide) and community affairs and represent the school effectively in these areas.
- Ability to pass background checks relating to DSHS Secretary’s List of Crimes and Negative Actions. (WAC 388-113).
