Volunteers make everything we do possible. Whether at events, on the road, or behind the scenes, every hour you give helps save lives and builds a caring community dedicated to rescue.
Rescue the Underdog is entirely volunteer-run. Every adoption, vet visit, event, and freedom ride happens because people step up to give their time.
When you volunteer, you become part of a dog’s journey from shelter to forever home. Every role matters, and every hour makes a difference.
Common Routes
- Vet visits and spay/neuter appointments
- Freedom rides out of shelters
This role is on call and requires a valid California driver’s license.
Application Process
Work remotely about 2 hours a week (minimum of 2 interviews) reviewing applications and speaking with potential adopters and fosters over Zoom or phone. Experience in fostering, shelter work, or the dog industry is preferred.
Support events throughout the year, often in partnership with local businesses like breweries and restaurants. Volunteers help handle dogs, engage with participants, and share our mission. We prefer volunteers who are familiar with our program or can commit to at least 3 events annually.

Assistance with Dogs
- Dog assessments
- Introductions
- Behavior support
Perfect for trainers or those looking to build experience. Requires a reliable vehicle and relevant background (1–3 hours per week, varies).
Photography
- Great photos and videos
- Event photographers
Design
- Merchandise design (tees, stickers, logos, sweatshirts, hats)
- Flyers, ads, and promotional materials
