About the role

The Social Media Specialist is responsible for managing the Grand Casino social channels and creating a social strategy that aligns with brand strategy and tone while communicating with followers. This role involves creating, capturing, and posting content, managing content calendars, influencer coordination, live social coverage of events, and crafting monthly performance reports.

Schedule

Applicants must be able to work a Tuesday–Saturday schedule as the standard workweek, with flexibility to work Sundays or Mondays as programming requires. This role also requires availability for nights, weekends, and business-critical holidays such as New Year's Eve, Memorial Day, July 4th, and Labor Day. This is not a traditional Monday–Friday position and is best suited for someone who enjoys being part of the action and creating engaging content for live events, promotions, and entertainment.

Responsibilities

  • Manage Grand Casino social pages and profiles, including social monitoring outside traditional work hours.
  • Build and execute our social media strategy through research, benchmarking, messaging, and audience identification.
  • Write, develop, and strategize online content production and scheduling.
  • Generate, edit, publish, and share content that drives and maximizes daily positive engagement.
  • Assist with crisis management and communications by working closely with necessary departments (risk, security, public relations, etc.).
  • Build meaningful connections and encourage loyalty through proper dialogue and messaging.
  • Moderate user-generated content and messages in accordance with company and community policies.
  • Create and implement a social media marketing plan and content calendar.
  • Collaborate with other departments to manage company reputation, coordinate promotions, and increase consumer reach.
  • Track and analyze analytics reports to gain insight into traffic, demographics, and effectiveness; utilize this information to positively affect future outcomes.
  • Develop and create monthly reporting to be shared with internal team members, including analytics and competitor research.
  • Work with departments to answer all questions/issues on social channels in a clear and timely manner, ensuring accurate promotion of department/property content and information.
  • Develop and enforce social media guidelines and/or best practices to be shared internally.
  • Operate as a real-time, “in-the-action” content creator, capturing and publishing content live during events, promotions, and activations.
  • Stay current with social media trends and best practices.
  • Write, develop, record, and edit videos for use online.
  • Be a featured face in the content! Represent Grand Casino on social channels through on-camera video features.
  • Assist in performing regular updates to Grand Casino website.
  • Assist in the creation and scheduling of digital assets and signage, as necessary.
  • Assist in developing interactive email content to be sent to the consumer database.
  • Maximize efforts with limited resources.
  • Handle other duties related to this role.

Requirements

  • High school diploma, general education degree (GED), or ability to pass basic skills assessment.
  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, or a related field preferred.
  • Two (2) years of experience supporting or contributing to social media, digital marketing, or content creation efforts preferred. Experience may include internships, freelance work, academic projects, or professional roles.
  • Foundational knowledge of major social media platforms (Facebook, X, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, LinkedIn) and their business applications required.
  • Exposure to social media tools (e.g., Sprout Social or similar), content creation platforms (e.g., Canva, Adobe), or marketing systems preferred.
  • Basic understanding of social media metrics (engagement, reach, impressions) with the ability to learn how to interpret performance and optimize content.
  • Demonstrated creativity, communication skills, and ability to contribute to content planning and campaign execution.
  • Strong creative writing and persuasive communication skills.
  • Must be able to secure a license from the Gaming Regulatory Authority (GRA).
  • Responsible for following all relevant Detailed Gaming Regulations (DGR’s).
  • Mille Lacs Band Member and American Indian preference will be exercised in the hiring process.

Travel Requirements

  • Ability to travel to the Twin Cities for partnership-related events (e.g., Minnesota Wild, Minnesota United FC, Native American Heritage events, VIP engagements).
  • Social media presence required at select off-property events and activations.

Transportation Requirements

  • Must have reliable transportation to:
    • Travel between Grand Casino Mille Lacs and Hinckley properties.
    • Attend events, promotions, and shows as needed.
    • Commute to offsite locations such as Grand Casino Arena, Allianz Field, and other partnership venues.
