About the role
We’re looking for a Social Media Contractor to execute campaigns and publish content across Major League’s Hacking social media channels, including MLH accounts, DEV accounts, brand‑owned podcast and event accounts during prime calendar windows. You’ll turn the energy of our events and the achievements of our community into content that informs, inspires, and grows our audience. This is a hands‑on role that involves collaborating on the content calendar, creating posts, and engaging with the community in real time.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate and execute on the content calendar across all MLH social channels, including LinkedIn, Twitter/X, Instagram, Discord, Facebook, and YouTube (familiarity with Bluesky & Threads is a plus).
- Create and publish platform‑native content: posts, graphics, short‑form video, and community highlights.
- Track, surface, and proactively engage with community and global social media trends.
- Grow and engage the audience of student developers, alumni, sponsors, and partners.
- Cover live events, capturing and sharing the hackathon experience in real time.
- Track performance and pull campaign data as needed.
- Partner with the content, marketing, and programs teams to keep messaging aligned.
Requirements
- 2–6 years managing social media for a brand, community, or organization.
- Experience working with an organization as a social media contractor.
- Strong writing skills with the ability to adapt voice to different platforms.
- Hands‑on experience with short‑form video and graphic/visual content design in Figma or Adobe Suite.
- Comfort with social analytics and turning metrics into decisions.
- Familiarity with the developer, tech, or startup world (bonus: personal hackathon experience).
- Self‑directed, organized, and able to move quickly across multiple channels.
Compensation
Hourly rate: $45 – $55.
Schedule
Weekly commitment: 20 hours.
Location
Remote role; must be US‑based.
