About the Role

Men’s E-News offers a genuine internship experience that prepares you for today’s competitive job market by providing real-world, hands-on experience. This internship is designed to transform you into an asset for any company, offering direction and personal management rather than menial tasks. As a social media marketing intern, you will learn the ins and outs of our organization and how social media contributes to our overall marketing efforts as a non-profit.

Desired Characteristics

• Excellent written and verbal communication, strong editing skills
• Creative with an eye for design
• Knowledge of digital media software (e.g., Photoshop or other graphic design software) is preferred
• Knowledge of Adobe and iMovie is a plus
• Familiarity with social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube, blogs, etc.)
• Willingness to create video blog posts, write blog posts, and post daily on Facebook and Twitter
• Energy and a desire to develop fresh ideas for growing our online presence
• Ability to identify a target market and engage them through social media
• Experience proofreading and editing
• Expert research skills
• Interest in social issues preferred
• Demonstrates flexibility and adaptability to change
• Interacts professionally in a variety of situations
• Ability to identify and solve problems quickly, decisively, and independently
• Shares information, cooperates with others, and is comfortable working as part of a team

Responsibilities

• Serve as the authorized voice of Men’s E-News by managing our online presence
• Assist with managing profiles and pages (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube, etc.)
• Upload videos, photo albums, and other content
• Find users to follow, friend, or like our organization
• Write and post blog entries, tweets, updates, etc.
• Track the growth and impact of social media on our business
• Reply to comments and messages
• Report findings to the team
• Learn and grow continuously, asking pertinent questions
• Perform minor video editing (a plus)
• Serve as the information hub, communicator, and daily monitor for online activities
• Manage online media, messages, and emails
• Monitor for inappropriate content, spammers, or content that can be promoted
• Oversee all social networking and recommend new programs as they become available
• Manage a positive community site experience through customer service and support
• Participate in forums, blogs, and relevant communities representing Men’s E-News
• Conduct research on up-and-coming social networks
• Send out press releases through online tools
• Post internship listings
• Research, write, and edit social media content
• Optimize website and social media presence

• Compile a portfolio of completed assignments by the end of the internship
• Gain an advanced understanding of current social networks
• Obtain experience in up-and-coming social media outlets
• Connect the importance of up-to-date social networking within an organization
• Understand how social networking benefits an organization’s growth

Schedule

The position is open for as long as the student would like, with a minimum commitment of 12 weeks. Hours range from 21 to 35 hours per week.

Requirements

This position is open to students enrolled at any college or university or graduates seeking real-world experience. Applicants must have an interest in social networking and media.

College Credit

While this is an unpaid internship, student interns may have the opportunity to receive college credit. Contact your undergraduate advising officer for more information.
