About the role

Mentor A Promise is a New York City–based nonprofit serving children and youth (ages 5–18) experiencing housing instability through mentorship, literacy, social‑emotional learning, creative expression, career development, advocacy, and community‑centered opportunity. The Social Impact Vlogger & Digital Storyteller (volunteer) will create authentic, conversational vlog‑style content that brings MAP’s mission, ideas, people, programs, and community to life, helping viewers understand not only what MAP does but why it matters.

Responsibilities

  • Create Vlogs for a Cause – develop engaging vlog‑style content connected to MAP’s mission; potential stories may explore mentorship, education, literacy, youth opportunity, housing instability, career readiness, creativity, community partnerships, volunteerism, accessibility, advocacy, technology, books and storytelling, art and music, film and animation, behind‑the‑scenes nonprofit work, community events, social‑impact ideas, and people using their skills for good.
  • Be a Digital Storyteller – help translate MAP’s work into stories for digital audiences; develop concepts with a strong Hook → Story → Human Connection → Insight → Invitation; help viewers understand MAP’s impact and sound human, not like a press release.
  • Develop Your Creative Voice – bring personality, curiosity, ideas, and storytelling instincts; experiment with approaches while staying aligned with MAP’s mission, safeguarding standards, communications strategy, and organizational voice.
  • Create Platform‑Ready Video Content – collaborate with MAP’s social media and communications teams to develop content appropriate for YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, and other digital channels; consider platform‑specific audience expectations.
  • Interview Interesting People – bring MAP’s community into the story by interviewing volunteers, educators, artists, writers, community partners, advocates, researchers, creatives, nonprofit professionals, subject‑matter experts, and organizational leaders; ensure conversations feel natural, thoughtful, curious, and accessible.
  • Take Audiences Behind the Scenes – show how mission‑driven work actually happens; explore the process behind programs, books, workshops, podcasts, animation, community partnerships, advocacy initiatives, creative projects, and other MAP work.
  • Collaborate With Creative Teams – work alongside video editors, social media team, writers, marketers, graphic designers, animators, illustrators, podcast teams, communications professionals, program teams, and creative leaders.
  • Develop Recurring Video Concepts – help create recognizable series that audiences can return to (e.g., Day in the Mission, Behind the Promise, People Making a Difference, What We Learned, Five Minutes With…, Inside MAP, Let’s Talk About It, How It Works, Stories From the Community).
  • Community‑Centered Storytelling – tell stories with people rather than about them; approach storytelling with curiosity
