About the role
The Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction seeks to hire a Correction Officer to join their team. This role offers rewarding and meaningful work within a supportive work family.
Responsibilities
- Maintain control of the institution to ensure safety and security
- Supervise and direct inmate activity
- Ensure assigned area is clean, safe, and secure
- Monitor and operate security controls, equipment, and computers
- Operate automotive vehicles in perimeter security and transport inmates
- Conduct inmate counts, security rounds, and searches
- Complete required reports and serve on committees
- Prevent escapes or incidents threatening security
- Necessary: Use physical force, unarmed self-defense, firearms, or other force to detain or secure inmates
Requirements
- Highest high school diploma or GED
- Valid driver’s license for positions in the transportation section, and/or commercial driver’s license for vehicle qualifications
- Successfully passed correction officer assessment within the last 24 months, or currently employed with Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction with previous certification in correction officer position

Benefits
- Starting salary at step 1: $24.88
- Salary increases to step 2: $25.61 after 6 months employment
- Additional .60 per hour for working 2nd or 3rd shift
