About the role

Snowboard Foundational and Sport/Snowboard Comp Coach positions are designed to help young riders develop strong fundamental skills, learn to be part of a team, and gain joy and passion for snowboarding—from the sport rider to the competitive rider. Coaches will work with athletes ages 5-20 competing in Freeride, Park, and Cross. Coaches are responsible for the successful implementation of the curriculum as developed and communicated by the Manager, Head Coach, and/or Director.

Responsibilities

  • Know and adhere to schedule, time, and attendance expectations.
  • Set up quality training environments: transport and install necessary equipment for training, safety, and security including closures, signage, training poles/panels, drills, and other equipment.
  • Implement team training at the direction of the Team Manager; accountable for the quality of curriculum, products, and services delivered.
  • Execute against a long-term athlete development focus: athlete retention and skill development.
  • Adapt to training environments and interpersonal dynamics.
  • Maintain quality and appearance of all Ski Team facilities and physical plant, including the Team Center, on-mountain training facilities, signage, program imaging, and other assets.
  • Stay current and adhere to company guidelines, policies, and procedures including Employee Ski & Ride Policy, safety, behavior, appearance, travel, time & attendance, and others.
  • Communicate effectively with team members, including guests and employees.
  • Ensure and execute teamwork within the team, departments, and company.
  • Attend and positively contribute to required trainings and meetings.
  • Perform other duties as assigned and agreed to with Supervisor, Manager, and/or Director.

  • Meet, greet, and interact with guests daily; be a role model for others.
  • Contribute to the quality of overall staff, including coaches and administrative staff, to deliver exceptional guest experience.
  • Seek feedback and input from customers, athletes, and parents when required.
  • Contribute to a positive work environment for all staff.
  • Communicate company goals and objectives.
  • Stay informed on all levels of the organization.
  • Contribute to meaningful and compelling goals within the overall mission, vision, and values of the Team and company.

  • Remain current with US Ski and Snowboard certification and license; stay updated on industry trends.
  • Remain open and eager to learn tools for communication and professional development.
  • Arrange time with immediate Supervisor for performance assessments.
  • Attend educational opportunities for professional growth.

Requirements

  • Current membership with US Ski & Snowboard.
  • Extensive experience and credibility within the competition level/segment.
  • A proven track record of working in successful team(s).
  • Adherence to US Ski & Snowboard core values.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to be a team player.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Basic level of comfort utilizing "smart" devices, tablets, video cameras, etc.
  • Applicants must be at least 18 years of age.

Qualifications

  • Preferred: PSIA/AASI Level 2+, IFSA Level 200+, US Ski & Snowboard Membership, Freestyle Certifications Level 200+.
  • High School Diploma.
  • US Ski & Snowboard Level 100 or Higher.
  • Prior applicable coaching experience.

Physical Requirements

  • Regularly required to walk, talk, see, hear, and ski/snowboard.
  • Capable of skiing or snowboarding in all types of terrain in varying and sometimes hazardous snow and weather conditions.
  • Capable of standing for long periods of time, up to 90% or more of a normal work shift.
  • Capable of frequently or constantly balancing, reaching, squatting, bending, kneeling, stooping, handling, and twisting.
  • May require out-of-the-ordinary skiing or snowboarding movements to assist children on the mountain.
  • Capable of occasionally carrying, lifting, pushing, or pulling up to 75 lbs.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Working Conditions

  • Frequently exposed to outside weather conditions, including extreme winter cold and blizzard conditions.
  • May encounter atmospheric conditions such as fumes, odor, dusts, mists, gases, and ventilation.

Equipment Used

  • Hand tools, small power tools, bags or large duffels, bamboo poles, ropes and rope spools, banners, shovels, gates/poles, skis or snowboard.

Safety/Protective Equipment

  • May be required to wear eye protection, gloves, masks, and helmet.
  • A Motor Vehicle Record review may be required as part of the job.

Pay

Base hourly pay range: $17.00 - $35.55 per hour. Actual pay will vary and may be above or below the range based on factors including but not limited to experience, education, training, location, merit system, quantity or quality of production, responsibilities, and regular and/or necessary travel. The range listed is one component of the total compensation package, which may also include short-term and long-term incentives and region-specific benefits.
