About the Role
We’re partnering with a leading organization to find an experienced SMS Architect who will provide technical architecture leadership across a complex communications platform environment. The successful candidate will work across multiple technical domains and teams, shaping the target and transition architecture while ensuring architectural decisions are understood and effectively sequenced across the wider technology landscape.
Responsibilities
- Provide technical architecture leadership across multiple domains, with a focus on understanding transition architecture and cross-domain impacts (e.g., how login/authentication affects downstream systems).
- Work across 3-4 teams to understand integration patterns and assess the implications of architectural decisions.
- Advise on build vs. buy vs. reuse decisions and recommend the optimal approach.
- Close cross-domain technical decisions and translate them into sequenced, value-led delivery work without replacing Product (outcomes/prioritization) or Engineering (estimates/delivery).
- Define target and transition architecture, including how DCP, EP, SLX, Chorus, and LOB systems integrate.
- Evaluate vendors, ideally staying through the first end-to-end implementation.
- Understand and shape the operating model, including vendor management, consent enforcement, records/legal hold, incident ownership, and LOB adoption.
Requirements
- Strong Enterprise/Technical Architecture experience across multiple domains, with proven ability to manage cross-domain impacts.
- Direct SMS/Communications Platform Architecture experience, including deep knowledge of the SMS stack (delivery, short codes, templates, consent, retention, and orchestration).
- Proven experience making and closing architectural decisions across multiple teams, particularly around build vs. buy vs. reuse, integrations, and target/transition architecture.
- Vendor evaluation and implementation experience, ideally with involvement through the first end-to-end implementation.
Qualifications
The successful candidate will be comfortable operating across Architecture, Engineering, Product, and business teams. They will bring together complex technical considerations and translate them into clear, sequenced delivery work.
