Job Description

This attractive opportunity involves:

  • Leading on delivery of elements of the Machinery & Functional Safety Improvements across the global business.
  • Providing Machinery Safety and Machinery and/or Process Functional Safety SME advice and support across the business.
  • Developing an industry-wide external network to identify best practices, innovations, and improvement opportunities for Machinery and Lifecycle of Assets. Championing and disseminating these through Communities of Practice and working with external partners when necessary.
  • Ensuring learning is shared across sites/businesses/groups and considering learnings from elsewhere to develop robust improvement plans. Monitoring and reviewing action closure status arising from major incidents. Facilitating and leading communication forums related to your high-consequence hazardous discipline.
  • Carrying out and supporting incident investigations as an SME.
  • Supporting all SME Team activity as required.
  • Ensuring HS&E critical and key controls and risks are identified and communicated for the lifecycle of the assets. Seeking out significant business changes and supporting sites/businesses in applying effective management of change.
  • Providing assurance to the business to support lifecycle requirements for asset compliance.
  • Supporting assurance to audit programs to ensure all topics are covered, ensuring company standards are upheld and supporting the HSE management system.
  • Updating, maintaining, and communicating HSE Standards and regulatory compliance requirements and supporting site and business assurance programs. Taking a lead on machinery safety and functional safety standards, focusing on North America standards such as ANSI, ASP, B11 group, CE, ASME, NFPA, ISO, UL accreditation, and national field labeling.
  • Identifying, prioritizing, and engaging with stakeholders relevant to your SME disciplines. Using good communication practices to support improvement, influence, and change both internally and externally.
  • Providing advice and support for projects across all Rolls-Royce businesses, guiding them on best practices and legal compliance. Supporting and identifying Capability Acquisition projects to ensure robust processes are developed and followed to ensure machinery projects are delivered in compliance with legislation and company standards and best practices with assurance activities.
  • Global travel is required.

Qualifications

  • Basic Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering with 5+ years of experience in machinery and functional safety, or Master’s degree in Engineering with 3+ years of experience in machinery and functional safety, or PhD/JD in Engineering.
  • Experience with requirements management.
  • Preferred Requirements: Relevant experience in Machinery Safety & Machinery or Process Functional Safety and a coordinator or leadership role. Understanding of global legislation, standards, and best practices. Proven track record working with engineering teams and compliance on emerging technologies (Automation, Autonomous Mobile Robots – AMR, Collaborative applications). Experience in product design reviews of machinery as a manufacturer or integrator in electrical control systems / functional safety. Participation in technical working groups that set industry standards. Relevant qualifications or accreditations: Machinery or Process Functional Safety Engineer status, B11 Licensed Machinery Safety Specialist. Excellent communication and presentation skills with the ability to influence and gain agreement for complex or impactful programs of work. Knowledge of the business-specific risks and industry approaches advantageous. Commitment to driving continuous improvement.
