About the role
This position is a safety-sensitive role requiring a clear mind and diligence. The employee is responsible for their own safety as well as the safety of others. Drivers may be scheduled to work different assignments, including interstate routes, at any time.
Responsibilities
- Load, haul, and deliver food waste on intra- and interstate routes with 15-25 stops per day, following company-determined routing.
- Operate 30-45' open-top dump trailers (combination vehicles) across a regional footprint.
- Drive manual and automatic transmission vehicles in compliance with DOT requirements and all local, state, and federal laws.
- Operate manual or electric pallet jacks as needed.
- Use a pressure washer to rinse bins and containers, ensuring all client locations are clean and free of debris.
- Perform pre- and post-trip inspections.
- Use hand tools for basic repairs of company bins and equipment.
- Maintain truck equipment and overall cleanliness.
- Utilize an electronic logging system for DOT driver logs and other required documentation.
- Maintain and submit paperwork, including contamination and service tickets, truck maintenance logs, and other documentation.
- Communicate regularly with customers, vendors, and the corporate office/operations team to ensure seamless operations.
- Report all accidents and injuries immediately to the safety manager.
- Work flexible hours based on seasonality, up to 60 hours in a 7-day week or 70 hours in 8 days.
- Attend and participate in weekly safety calls, trainings, or briefings.
- Use a computer and cell phone for training, communication, and expense management.
Requirements
- Class A CDL (Preferred).
- Clean MVR and PSP.
- At least 23 years of age with a minimum of 2 years full-time verifiable tractor-trailer experience OR 21 years of age with 1 year of tractor-trailer experience if a graduate from a Truck Driving School or with 1 year of Military experience.
- Stable work history.
- Must pass a pre-employment drug screen.
Physical Requirements
- Regularly lift, pull, and/or push up to 70 pounds.
- Bend, stoop, twist, shovel, or reach overhead.
- Pull/roll up to 300 pounds when working with totes.
- Manage unpleasant odors from food waste/farms.
- Work outside in all weather conditions.
